Committee Welcomes More Public Views as It Meets Department on Ongoing Fire and Rescue Services Reforms Kiambu. 21/01/2026

Today,21/01/2026,  the Departmental Committee on Transport, Public Works and Infrastructure met with officials from the County Executive to deliberate on the proposed Kiambu County Fire and Rescue Services Bill, 2025.

The meeting was chaired by Hon. Patrick Mwiberi Ngugi, with the County Executive team led by Chief Officer Ms. Virginia Kihonge and Chief Fire Officer Mr. Samuel Kahura, who was accompanied by other officers from the fire unit.

During the meeting, the department proposed a raft of amendments, noting that the absence of adequate TVET training in fire and disaster management, coupled with insufficient funding, poses a major challenge to effective fire and rescue services within the county.

The Committee, however, assured the department that the proposed amendments would be addressed to enhance funding and ensure the County Fire Department is well-equipped to serve residents effectively.

The Committee will engage members of the public and other relevant stakeholders on Tuesday, 27th January 2026, and the Chairperson has encouraged participants to submit written memoranda to the Office of the Clerk.

Members of the public may visit https://www.kiambuassembly.go.ke/business/section-ii/bills to download the proposed Bill as well as a generic memoranda form for proposing amendments.

The Bill is sponsored by Hon. Lawrence Mwaura (MCA, Ting’ang’a Ward).
